I found the site while web surfing on a snowy night here in Nova Scotia. Spent at least an hour looking at photos of Washington and old yearbooks. Have often thought of Mrs. Dorwood and three years of her French class....I use the remnants of what I learned with her when we have French speaking visitors at our winery! Wonderful site!

I just want to mention what a great job Dee does with this site -- as everyone has seen . If everyone didn't realize there are a ton of WACOHI alumni on Facebook, you who haven't checked it out - should. They even have a search to check out alumni by your graduation year so it's easy to find classmates . Plus Dee has some great photo albums when you add her as your friend. Hope you don't mind Dee.
Sunday October 04, 2009 - 8:51 AM
Even though I could not come up for the 40th, I did wear orange and black at work yesterday. Just a small tribute to WACOHI. I am sorry I did not get to see you guys. Keep in touch!!

Hi class of 1969! I'm going to meet you guys for the big 40. Big thank-you to Pat and Ray. Maralee Joos.
Thanks, Dave. I appreciate your offer but Don and I never planned to go beyond the Class of '71. Others will have to pick up the baton and go forward with their own design and website. I just do not have the time right now and Don wanted me to keep this site as our work. It was a labor of love for us and I want to honor his wishes.

Hi Gregg and William,
I am the owner and webmaster of wacohi.com. I do not have the '51,'52, or '68 yearbooks. When I have time, the '60 yearbook is next in line to be posted on the website. I plan to fill in the years from 1946 to 1971 eventually. ;-)
For those interested in the Class of 69 Reunion, info is posted on Facebook:

The pictures and yearbook brought many memories. Some we like, some we didn't. A great job to those who put in their time. I hope to be at the 40th, but do not know for sure yet. Sounds great. Lots of memories at the square the cops telling us we had been there long enough and to get moving!

Ray, the breakfast sounds great! Also the homecoming, someone from '68 might show up if that's OK.

Hey Ray, if we sit on the benches on the square does that mean Red Blumenshine will come by and tell us to go home? Tell Patty to get a computer.

CLASS of 1969: This is another Big Thank You to Patty Wagner & Ray Lott for putting together the upcoming 40th Reunion of the Class of '69. Looking forward to seeing old friends and classmates. Ray, can you ask Patty whether we are opening this reunion up to Classes of '68 and '70 as well. We are not getting any younger and we all had some older and younger friends & siblings who might like to join us. Regards, Gordy
Wednesday August 26, 2009 - 10:03 AM
Hello Class of '69: Guess what? It's been forty years now, and it is time for another reunion!
There is nothing really formal planned for this one, but Pat Wagner asked me to get a note onto WACOHI.com. Here are the informal plans for a relaxing get-together:
Friday, October 2 --
Homecoming Parade starts at 2:00 p.m.
Homecoming Football (vs. Pekin) starts at 7:30 p.m.
Informal gathering at Denhart's C-Note Pub on Washington Square starts around 7:00 p.m. (may overflow onto the park benches in the Square, like in the old days).
Sunday, October 4 --
Breakfast at Kennel Lake provided by Pat Wagner and whomever she can corral as her assistants (in the past, it has always been good!) Come out as early as you feel like getting your old selves moving around.

What a fabulous web site this is. I grew up in Washington and lived there from 1959 until 1983. I graduated from WACOHI in 1972. The collection of photos is outstanding. I haven't been back to Washington since my mother passed a few years ago. Looking at this web site, however, convinces that my family and I need to make the trip back sometime soon.

I love this site. It is nice to read all the comments from alumni. Just moved from Cleveland Ohio to Ozark Missouri. Just down the road from Springfield and also just down the road from Mansfield (home for 60 years to Laura Ingalls Wilder). Her home and museum are there, it is where she wrote all the "Little House" books and it is an interesting place. Husband Steve and I are doing great and our son Chris lives in Chicago, sister Monica "74" still lives in Albuquerque NM. and brother Mike lives in East Peoria. Everyone is doing fine, just getting a little older - you know.

I came about this on accident but thought it was a pretty cool idea. I am married and living in Olathe, Kansas. I have two kids and work as a teller. I have been able to get in touch with a few classmates through Facebook. It is a pretty neat website actually better than Classmates.com. Hello to all my former classmates! I still keep in touch with some but have lost track of many. I'm still in Washington doing social work for an agency in Tremont. We had a great 30th reunion and I'm looking forward to seeing you all back for our 40th!

Haven't checked the site in a few years. Wish more people knew about it. My wife Susan and I retired two years ago. She from Qwest Communications and I from the Dept. of the Navy (civilian). We have one daughter and six grandchildren. I'll be a great grandfather next spring, and my oldest grandson Erol is starting varsity football as a freshman. What a good time to be an American. Good luck and best wishes to all who read these posts.

This website is appreciated much more now since we live away from the area. Appears to be a lot of people from my older sibs' years in the photos ('66, '68, '70).

The site is great. I have a question, though. In the '69 grad picture section, I'm out of alphabetical order, hanging at the bottom of the page like the ugly step-child. Did Sharp put you up to that? I'm going to ask her...

Amazing stuff here. Started looking at the site after a long phone conversation with Steve Towry last night that brought back a lot of memories. The recent photos are great too. What is it? You all are stuck in some kind of a time warp. Everybody looks great! While I have the Yearbook photos, I don't have any photos from my old Grade School, John Hensey. Anybody out there have some to share? Best to all of you!

I stumbled upon this site nearly a week ago by accident and didn't have time to linger then.
Thank you for this site and ESPECIALLY for the yearbooks. My own yearbooks were very special to me, and I would have held on to them always; however, now they are lost forever since about 1982 (a long story), although not of my own doing.
Again, thank you very much. I just visited the 1970 yearbook and was looking through the seniors...I can't express how much that means to me, to be able to see those photos I thought I would never see again because of no longer having my yearbooks.
Hey, everybody from the Class of 1970, I'm looking forward to the next reunion...I'm going to try really hard to mingle this time...I really want to talk to as many of you as I can, but sometimes it's scary to approach those you don't know well (i.e., fear of rejection), so try to meet me halfway...I really would like to talk to everyone I can.
Wow, those 1970 senior pictures really take me back....it's amazing how those pictures from so long ago can bring back memories you haven't thought about for years.

Hey, happened upon this site by accident. I love it!!!
Has anybody out there gone to a Tony Robbins' event besides me? I went to the "Unleash The Power Within" (firewalk) live event in San Jose, CA, in June of 2006 and can't stop thinking about it...the most awesome experience of my life (with the possible exception of the birth of my daughter, Laura, in 1972), and the FIREWALK was pretty exciting, too! (tee-hee)
I'd love to hear from y'all (used to live in Texas for a few years, but don't really say "y'all" too much)....just try to put WACOHI in the subject line so I'll know it's not "garbage" mail.
Again, G-R-E-A-T site....I love the images of the high school in the background!

As far as I know, Class of 1967 is having our 40th reunion the week of July 4th, coinciding with an All City reunion. I'm looking forward to seeing family and friends. This time I do have Grandchildren pics to share!

Thank you for creating this site! Though I now live on curving, hilly roads in a forest of trees, many of my dreams involve my walking, riding a bike, or driving the roads in and around Washington. Facing a difficult task, I remember sliding to school on the ice, wearing clothes I sewed, playing my .00 piano, and living among the some of the best people on Earth! I married a wonderful man from Springfield, IL and have twin sons in high school. I've taught English at a technical college 30 years. John McLees shared this site with me when he came to a meeting in Atlanta.

Well, Hello Washington Classmates!
This is Kenny Todd, Class of 65. I just learned about this site yesterday in Washington at Denhart's Baking Company and Restaurant on the square. It was a great to see my old class mates as I had forgotten about a lot of you. I'm a retired 30 year veteran of Law Enforcement and living in rural Marshall County now. I married Vicki Bjork, Class of 68, in 1970 and we had two children, Troy and Kim, both married and living in the Peoria Area. We have four Grandchildren to date.

What a neat website - well done and not too busy! Got a note from a good friend who still lives in town. Enjoyed reading the notes from other people. In the '66 4th grade class pix with Mrs. Weeks the girl labeled "Jan" on the top row is Jan Lietz. Also, in the '66 pictures a girl's name should be "Mildred Lott". In the '66 1st grade pix the boy in front row right is Tony Moore - lived down the street from me. Liked seeing the pictures from people and reading how far many of them have roamed from home. I have been on trips to Europe with my hubby when he went for his government work. Never imagined I would actually be in those places I learned about when attending Washington schools! I welcome any correspondence from former classmates and hearing what their lives became.

I really loved looking back at the past and want to thank you for all the memories. My brother, Terry Miller and I started out going to Central, then to Pleasant View, then to Washington Grade, then to WaCoHi, then moved to Eureka in 67. Terry was in the class of 70 and I in the class of 69. He lives in England now and I miss him. He finally got an email addy but he rarely checks his mail, Oh Brother! What a blast from the past, Thanx, Ida Miller (Harroun)

Thanks to our 40th reunion flyer I just went perusing this site and what fun! Found a note from my niece Erin Kathleen Armstrong (class of 1998) saying as to how there'd been an Armstrong in Washington schools for a long time--I started the high school run in 1962 followed by my eight younger siblings and many nieces and nephews til Erin's graduation! I've enjoyed my first stroll through this website and will definitely be back to see more. Thanks to those responsible for an excellent site. And I will get that form mailed off to the reunion committee PDQ!

Hello. I am trying to locate Maureen Yeagle, who graduated in 1969. Shortly after I graduated (1971), and for a brief time, Maureen and I were sisters-in-law. I am no longer married to a Miller, but I'd love to get hold of Maureen. If anyone knows of her whereabouts, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has any stories about my dad, Michael E. Kelley. I am not sure what year he graduated, but he was 42 in 1985 when he died of a MI. I know there was another Michael Kelley, but my dad grew up in the country on Liberty Lane and he had 2 sisters and 4 brothers. I would just like to know more about him since I was only 8 when he died and I am just curious about him. Thank you...

I lived in Washington on Oakwood Circle. All my neighbors and a few brothers went to WACOHI, but I was bussed to the Academy in Peoria. My father, Bill Fry, owned the Rexall Drug Store and the Tazewell Theatre for awhile. He tried to bring in family shows to keep the kids off the square. (Didn't work) I remember being caught "hanging out on the Square". It was a no-no in my family. I remember watching the Canning factory burn from my bedroom window. This is a wonderful website I will definitely revisit. Thank you to those responsible. I really enjoyed the trip down memory lane. By the way, the door on the store next to the bank is the one my Dad put in after the Rexall burned down in '57 or '58. We could see the flames from it from our house on Wood St, by Lincoln School. I am awash in a sea of memories right now. Thank you.

Hello, to everyone. Need to get the word to anyone from the Class of '66: anyone knowing the whereabouts of classmates, please, send an e-mail to myself or anyone in the Class that lives in Washington and have them forward to Marlo Aberle, myself, or Kris Wilson. Reunion to be held September 22 and 23 in conjunction with Homecoming. A mailing will be sent out shortly.

Don - What a great site! Thanks for all of your hard work in putting it together and keeping it updated. It was great reading the article about Stu Levenick. I didn't make it back for the 35th reunion since we were in the midst of starting a new business, but I'm looking forward to the 40th. Thanks again. David Lockwood

I enjoyed looking at yearbook and other pictures. Brought back memories of my 30 years teaching - what was then - Home Economics, now Family & Consumer Science from 1962 - 1992. There aren't many teachers left that I taught with.
I'm enjoying retirement spending the winters in Surprise, AZ (northwest Phoenix) and in Washington in the summer.

I grew up in Washington, but I did not attend Washington High. I graduated from St. Patrick's in 1963. I worked for the Police Dept. in 1968-69 and 70 as a dispatcher. Worked at Unkle Woody's as a Car Hop when I was in High School along with my sister Pat and brother Jim. The web site is really great. I learned about the Web site from my St. Pat's Alumni newsletter.

I just want to thank Don for the years of great work he's put in on this website. My husband and I get to Washington at least once a year to visit family, but my dad died in Aug. and Mom now lives in Metamora so we won't be staying there anymore. Tom and I loved get up real early and take walks around town, even in the cold of winter, and then stop at Tally Ho for coffee or light breakfast before walking back to Lynn St. to my parents' home. Washington has changed a lot, but memories keep it familiar. My husband is from Palatine, IL and all of his former schools have been torn down or changed; and 20 years ago his parents moved away from the house he grew up in , so he has sort of adopted Washington as his second hometown. Thanks for the memories, Don.

I lived for 35 years in the same house in Washington on Lawndale. Now I live one mile north of interstate 80. It is great to see so many people still connected. My brother Ed road out Katrina in the hall way of his house for 5 hours. Storm surge stopped about 40 feet from him. Thank God. He was lucky. We all lived in a great place at a great time to be alive. It was never perfect but it taught us all how to survive. Lets hope our kids are as fortunate as we were.

Great site Don, Really enjoy looking at the pictures of Washington's early years. Are there any pictures of the old movie house on the square out there? I do have lots of old pictures for the class of 74 and 77. My two older brothers Graduated in 74 and myself in 77. If you would like some of the old class pictures from washington grade, lincoln grade and central grade schools I would be more than happy to dig them up and send them to you. Great job, and Hats off to you Don. Thanks for your time and sharing the memories.

In the first picture of a Pleasant View first grade class. In the first row on the far right is Kari Schmidgall. I think that the girl you have identified as a Faubel is actually Barbara Schrock. The first name of the little girl beside the teacher was Vicky. In the second grade picture starting with the back row from the right is Rex Winemiller and Kari Schmidgall. The little girl in the front row on the right is Virginia Waughop. I am almost sure that the girl you have identified as Mary Jo Faubel is actually Barbara Schrock. In the Grace Bible Choir I recognize several faces. In the first row from the left. The first man is your father Walter Lott. I don't know the next one but the last one is Jim Lanxton and next to him is Mrs. Schuck, but I don't remember her first name for now. Second row and the second person in is Doris Attig. Skip two ladies and the next one is Virginia Summer. Skip one and the middle gentleman is Steve Lott next to him is Ken Clark I think. The only other one whose name I can recall in that row is the second to the last, Jo Ann Summer. In the third row is Joan Cook her mother and if you skip one her sister Jean. The next one is a Hunziker. Skip the next one and you have Bob Summer. Then comes your sister Mildred Lott and I don't know the next two but the last two are Carolyn and Sally Grenzebach. In the last row is the oldest Wehnes girl and next to her is Mrs. Guth. I don't know anyone else in that row except Carol Lott in the far right corner. Some of the other faces I recognize but I can't put names on them right now. The pioneer girls picture is pretty unclear for me right now. Let me study it more and I will try to name some of the girls. I hope this helps. These pictures bring back some pretty good memories of more innocent times.

Over the past several weeks, there has been a deluge of postings on this page from websites advertising online poker and backgammon. Because of this, I have changed the way that entries are posted. When you enter a message, it will not appear immediately as it has in the past. Your entry will go into a queue until I can post it manually. This is the only way that I can keep unscrupulous website owners from loading up the page with spurious entries. I was really glad you found a picture of the old Depot where my dad worked as a station agent before we moved to Florida. When I heard that the Railroad tore it down to avoid paying property taxes I was saddened. Oh well, life goes on. In addition to thanking you for creating and maintaining this site, I would like to once again express my appreciation to Patty Wagner, Ray Lott, Gail (Schwarentraub) Harris and Terry Speerly for their dedication in pulling off a 35th Reunion. Hi, my name is Jeremiah and I grew up in a very old house in Washington at 500 S. Main Street. My parents still live there today but I was wondering if you had any old photos of that house. I found one on this web site that shows a few houses on S. Main but mine is covered by a few trees so I can't see it too well. Just wondering though if there were anymore out there. When I was younger we also did that Christmas tour thing. I remember I had to stay upstairs though while people came in and ate cookies and snacks :)Joyce (Sprague) Nordhielm 1950 JOYNORD.JUNO.COM Washington, IL Wednesday December 15, 2004 - 2:22 PM
Hi Don and Dee Every time I sneak some time to look at WACOHI.COM I'm more impressed with what you are doing. Our picture file is growing at the Historical Society, and will sometime soon be sorted and catalogued so we know what we have. We had a wonderful Christmas Home Tour this year. Over 700 people came through. The old White (Mason-White) funeral home was the big draw. The Ruppman's have been working on it (or their contractors) have been working on it for almost 5 years and it is close to complete. Again, Thank you for your wonderful excitement for Washington. I've been here 72 years and wish I could see another 72.Ed Dingledine 1970 Steamboat Springs, CO Thursday December 09, 2004 - 8:20 PM
Don, I've been checking out your site since Keith Smith showed it to me a little over a year ago. It's been great to see so many things that I remember (and some I don't!). In 30 years of playing music, mostly in Colorado but other places as well, it's not been uncommon for someone from home to show up in some obscure place and say 'Hi'. The talk inevitably turns to what a great place Washington was to grow up in.Ferrel Lytle 1946 Peoria, Illinois Saturday November 27, 2004 - 11:03 AM
After finding the WaCoHi site quite by accident, I was pleased so see 'old times' photos around town. I didn't make it to the 35th reunion, but John Welch told me about the Web site. It had some great memories - bitter and sweet. Thank you, Don, for creating this site. I can't find the Uncle Woody's pictures. I used to work there. It was great! I sure miss those "Big Deals." Of course, back then, they didn't all go to the hips. Don I am totally overwhelmed with your passion to expose and share Wacohi web site. Your passion is certainly our pleasure. This has to cost you, not only many hours of dedication but more than likely a coin or two. My real question is. What can all of the loyal Wacohi Alumni do to keep a Great thing going? Your suggestions will be appreciated and the Panther Pride will respond. Tom Hexamer and the Class of 56??Joyce (Sprague) Nordhielm 1950 Washington, IL Wednesday September 08, 2004 - 4:38 PM

Don, As you know for the last year I have been searching for the class of 69. The reunion in Oct. is a culmination of that search. As I said you have been the key part of that search. Thank you for the great job you do on the website and for all your help. I am really looking forward to seeing every one from the class of 69. It has been 37 long years and I can't wait to renew old friendships. Also thanks to Gail, Patty, Terry, and Ray for all your work. And of course thanks Gordy for planting the seed. SEE YOU ON OCT 1 DanRay Lott 1969 Washington, Illinois Monday August 16, 2004 - 9:14 PM
Class of '69 members: Reunion announcements are being sent out to everyone whose mailing address was available. There are still some people for whom we have no current address. If you click the "yearbooks" link on Don's web site, then click 1969, you will see the flier announcing the 2004 reunion. It is a two page Adobe pdf, so after you read the announcement on page 1, take a look at the second page. This is our list of missing classmates. There is also a list of contacts on that page if you have information to share. Hope to see you in Washington in October! Ray
p.s. Thanks, Don, for helping us out. You are doing a great job with your site. You're a good brother!Patty Wagner 1969 NA (no email) NA (no website) Peoria, IL Monday August 09, 2004 - 2:11 PM

Re: the picture in the July 21st edition of the Courier: On the left from front to back: Brad Ward, next to Brad is John Goddard, and to John's left would be Ken Mieschner. The person next to Ken blocked by the hand I believe is Don Manier. In the back in the suit is the music teacher, Ken Hess. On the right, the person first on the right I do no know. The person to his right would be Jeff Kelly. My first time on the site but not my last. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to make this available to us. Believe Pam Drum is somewhere in Colorado or Kansas. Karl is in Florida. They have been divorced for several years.

A special "Hello" to the members of the the classes of 66-70! You are INVITED. . . . Kep's place in Washington is available on Friday June 18th 2004 for an informal icebreaker starting at 8:00 pm. We also thought it would be nice to include the classes of 1966, 1967, 1969 and 1970. Don, Shortly after you posted the first pics of the '71 reunion my brother John told me about this. I thought it was pretty cool then, but when I returned to this site recently I was flabbergasted. What you have done here quite impressive, and very much appreciated. The time we spent at wacohi was relatively short but memories are way out of proportion. Thanks for that. I had some nice hair then, didn't I? I wish I had it back.Dan Gibson Friday April 02, 2004 - 8:04 AM

Through this incredible electronic medium we are able to make contact with individuals whom we know but have not seen since those wonderful years in school. To members of the class of 1971: I find that words are hard to describe the pleasure I had reviewing this web sight. The pictures were excellent and they brought many fond memories of the years I spent at WCHS. Many of you I remember from biology class and in athletics but certainly as fine representatives of the school. Very few of you have I seen since leaving in 1970 to begin a career in school administration, but those years (1962-1970) are truly the joy of my life and experience in education. I thank everyone of you for being a part of my life. Sincerely, Gerald EssingtonTed Lott Washington, IL Tuesday February 19, 2002 - 03:05 PM

I enjoyed seeing all the photos... esp of those whom I missed talking to at the reunion. I was so glad to see all of the out-of-state people who came... esp. so soon after the events of Sept. 11th!! How about those of you who live locally who didn't come?? Try to make it next time - it's always fun and with the events of this fall it is more impt than ever to stay connected..... you never know what tomorrow may bring! I suggest going back to doing these in the summer when more people can come. Also: in summer we can do this in an inside/outside venue .... needed for all of us who cannot tolerate all the smoke (why are there so many smokers anyhow???) Looking forward to the next one!Cindy Tully Fluck 609 Oakwood Lane Washington, IL Thursday November 15, 2001 - 01:00 PM

Hi Marge. I have a picture of my old in our driveway on the website that has your house on Oakwood Circle in the background. Do you know who is on the horse in that picture? I have the same problem that you do with not recognizing some of the people in the reunion shots. John Kane has helped me identify many of the people, but there are still quite a few I do not recognize. I will begin putting labels under the pictures, but I could use some help from others with those that are not identified.Marje Hammann Luetkemeyer PENSACOLA, FL Sunday November 04, 2001 - 08:00 PM
Thanks for the pictorial of the reunion that I could not make. Don, do you remember that I lived across the street from you at Oakwood Circle? It was not the same as being there, but nice to see so many classmates and that they had not changed ... well maybe a little.
